David Hancock

Dr David Hancock is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Paediatrics at the UWA Medical School and an Adjunct Research Fellow at the UWA Centre for Child Health Research (affiliated with the Kids Research Institute Australia) at The University of Western Australia. His research focuses on pediatric respiratory diseases, particularly examining infection mechanisms and clinical outcomes in children.

Dr Hancock's recent work examines respiratory disease burden in young children through longitudinal cohort studies and innovative monitoring approaches. His research demonstrates strong activity in infection (100%), infectious agents (78%), bronchiolitis (74%), clinical trials (67%), and immunological aspects of respiratory diseases. He employs both observational and interventional methodologies to understand disease mechanisms and develop potential interventions.

He currently leads a research project funded by the Raine Foundation titled "Predicting a child's respiratory disease burden in the first three years of life" (August 2025 to August 2027), which aims to identify early markers of respiratory disease outcomes in young children. This work contributes to Sustainable Development Goals related to child health and well-being.

Dr Hancock collaborates extensively with researchers including Stick, S., Kicic, A., Karpievitch, Y.V., and Iosifidis, T. at the UWA Medical School and affiliated research institutes. His research has accumulated 529 citations with an h-index of 11 according to Scopus metrics.
