David H. Weinberg is a Professor in the Department of Astronomy at Ohio State University, where he has been faculty since 1995. He is also a member of the Center for Cosmology and AstroParticle Physics (CCAPP).
- Education:
- Undergraduate at Yale University
- Graduate work at Princeton University
- Postdoctoral research at Cambridge University and U.C. Berkeley
- Long-term member at the Institute for Advanced Study
His research focuses on cosmology, galaxy formation, large-scale structure, and the intergalactic medium. He has been deeply involved with the Sloan Digital Sky Survey (SDSS) since 1992, serving as Collaboration Spokesperson for SDSS-II and Project Scientist for SDSS-III. Recent work explores Galactic chemical evolution through the APOGEE surveys.
Publications highlight cosmology, galaxy surveys, and computational astrophysics. His work with SDSS has driven major advances in understanding cosmic expansion, dark matter distribution, and galaxy clustering patterns.
He acts as a mentor to graduate students and postdocs, including former students Jeremy Tinker and Zheng Zheng. Weinberg also engages in interdisciplinary collaborations, notably with artist Josiah McElheny, creating cosmologically inspired art installations.
