Dr. David Gordon, MD, is an Associate Dean for Student Affairs and Associate Professor in the Department of Emergency Medicine at Duke University School of Medicine. He serves as an Advisory Dean and Associate Program Director for Emergency Medicine, with a focus on clinical education and patient safety.
- Education: BA and MD from Harvard University
Dr. Gordon’s research centers on clinical reasoning, emphasizing its instruction, assessment, and remediation to reduce diagnostic errors. He has innovated Duke’s preclinical curriculum and directs the Clinical Skills Lab. His work spans interdisciplinary approaches to health professions education.

- 2022 Duke Master Clinician/Teacher Award
He previously led Duke’s Undergraduate Education Director role for 15 years and chaired Clerkship Directors of Emergency Medicine. Currently, he co-leads the Duke Patient Safety Course and shapes medical education policy.
