Helen A. Gordon

Helen A. Gordon serves as Assistant Professor at Duke University School of Nursing, with a 40-year career dedicated to birth and women's health. She holds appointments in the Accelerated Bachelor of Science in Nursing (ABSN) and Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) programs, co-teaching maternity nursing and senior seminars while serving as lead faculty in community health.

Her educational background includes a DNP from Case Western Reserve University (2012), MS in Parent-Child Nursing and Nurse-Midwifery from University of Utah, and BSN from University of Arkansas College of Nursing. Professional certifications include Certified Nurse Midwife (CNM), Certified Nurse Educator (CNE), and Certified Healthcare Simulation Educator (CHSE).

Gordon's research focuses on adult teaching methodologies and preserving physiological birth processes, emphasizing nurses' roles in maintaining normal labor. She pioneered LDRP care implementation in tertiary settings as the first U.S. nursing director to do so and developed market-driven women's care services. Her scholarly work extends to teaching a mindfulness course for nursing students.

As Faculty-in-Residence at Randolph dorm on Duke's East Campus, she engages 182 freshman coeds alongside her fox terrier Cody, aiming to reshape perspectives on nursing careers and promote campus cultural opportunities.

Her administrative leadership includes directing competitive women's health service development and senior seminar instruction.
