David Goldstein is an Associate Professor in the Department of English at York University and Coordinator of the Creative Writing Program. He previously served as an Assistant Professor at the University of Tulsa. His research focuses on early modern British literature, food studies, contemporary poetry, and book history. He holds a Ph.D. from Stanford University, an M.A. from Johns Hopkins, and a B.A. from Yale.
Goldstein’s work includes the award-winning book Eating and Ethics in Shakespeare's England and co-edited collections on Shakespeare, cuisine, and hospitality. His poetry volumes Lost Originals and Laws of Rest complement his critical scholarship. He has published articles on topics ranging from soil politics in Paradise Lost to Martha Stewart’s domestic labor.
He co-directed the Mellon Institute’s Before 'Farm to Table' project (2017–2021) and currently leads York’s Creative Writing Program. His media work has appeared in SAVEUR, The New York Sun, and Time Out. He accepts new graduate students and welcomes media inquiries.
