Dr. David Gazsi is an Assistant Professor at the Centre for European Integration Research (EIF) within the Department of Political Science at the University of Vienna. He also serves as External Lecturer at the Diplomatic Academy of Vienna and holds roles as Associate Expert at the University of Surrey’s Centre for Britain and Europe, and Editorial Assistant at East European Politics. His research focuses on EU external relations, critical social theory, political psychology, and foreign policy analysis.
Dr. Gazsi holds a PhD from King’s College London (Political Science), an MA from the University of Vienna (Global History/Global Studies), and an MSc from Hungary’s National University of Public Service (Security and Defence Studies). His academic career includes postdoctoral research at the University of Surrey, consultancy at Leiden University, and roles with the EU Agency for Fundamental Rights, European Medicines Agency, and United Nations (UNODC).
His recent publications analyze EU-Eastern Neighbourhood relations, populism’s impact on foreign policy institutions in Hungary/Poland, and EU border management through Frontex-Moldova dynamics. Research trends emphasize critical approaches to EU foreign policy decentering, institutional capture by populism, and security governance frameworks.
Dr. Gazsi’s professional network spans academia and international organizations, reflecting his interdisciplinary approach to European integration challenges. He actively contributes to policy-relevant research through projects funded by the EU and collaborative initiatives like the Vienna Working Group on Digital Europe.
