David G. MacPherson

David G. MacPherson is a Clinical Associate Professor and Director of the Advanced Education in General Dentistry (AEGD) program at the East Carolina University School of Dental Medicine. He holds dual clinical and educational leadership roles, emphasizing the development of comprehensive general dentists. His career spans military service, dental practice, and academia.

Research interests focus on clinical dentistry, dental education, and the integration of military and civilian healthcare practices. His service includes over 30 years in the Canadian military, where he held leadership positions in combat units and dental corps, including deployments to Germany, Yugoslavia, the Middle East, and Lebanon. He also served as Chief Instructor for Medical and Dental Education in the Canadian Armed Forces.

Awards include Board Certification by the American Board of General Dentistry and Fellowship in the Academy of General Dentistry.

Advising and mentorship are central to his role, guiding residents in the AEGD program. He brings expertise from his military dental leadership and post-9/11 service in Afghanistan and Iraq conflicts. His work emphasizes full-spectrum oral healthcare delivery and preparing future dental leaders.
