David Fresko

David Fresko serves as an Associate Teaching Professor of Cinema Studies at Rutgers University and holds the administrative role of Assistant Undergraduate Director for the program. He maintains an external affiliation as Scholar-in-Residence at the Film-makers’ Cooperative.

His research specializes in five core domains:

• Avant-garde film and media production and theory
• Documentary cinema practices and historiography
• Interdisciplinary film, photography, and media theory
• Political dimensions of cinematic expression
• Global alternative film cultural formations

Currently developing the monograph The Cinematic Movement: Montage, Politics, Film, Fresko examines movement across technical, bodily, and revolutionary contexts during 1960s-1970s cinema. At the Film-makers’ Cooperative, he curates the thematic series “Counter-Culture / Counter-Cinema.”
