David Fox is a Professor in the Department of Earth and Environmental Sciences at the University of Minnesota, specializing in paleobiology, paleoclimatology, and ecological biogeography through stable isotope analysis and stratigraphic data.
His research encompasses three primary areas: (1) stable isotope measurements of biogenic/sedimentary materials to study Late Pleistocene-to-Recent ecological changes in North American deer and mammoths/mastodons; (2) stratocladistics for phylogenetic analysis using computer-simulated evolutionary histories; and (3) ecological biogeography of modern North American mammals in relation to climate variation and deglaciation timing.
Professor Fox actively mentors undergraduate researchers in CT scanning of fossils, geochemical laboratory work, and potential gene sequencing projects, emphasizing hands-on training in paleontological methods.
He directs the Paleobiology and Paleoecology Lab, which supports research in stable isotope geochemistry, evolutionary simulations, and climate-biota interactions across geological timescales.
