David Fernandez-Antoran is a CRUK-RadNet Group Leader at the Gurdon Institute, University of Cambridge. He leads a research group focused on radiation biology, clonal evolution, and cell competition mechanisms in epithelial tissues. His work integrates 3D primary cultures, lineage tracing, and advanced microscopy to study how environmental factors like ionizing radiation influence oncogenic mutations and tissue dynamics. Key achievements include developing self-sustaining 3D epithelioid cultures and demonstrating redox-based interventions to suppress oncogenic clones.
Education: PhD in Immunology from the Spanish National Centre for Biotechnology (CNB-Madrid), Postdoc at the MRC Cancer Unit under Prof. Philip H. Jones.
Research Interests: Radiation effects on cancer risk, clonal competition dynamics, epithelial regeneration, and novel therapies to modulate tumor initiation.
Articles Overview: Recent studies explore metabolic regulation of oncogenic clones (2024), placental pathogen responses (2024), and p53 mutation constraints (2022). Articles analyze cellular interactions at molecular and tissue levels, with implications for cancer prevention strategies.
Awards: CRUK-RadNet grants (2022–2024), Isaac Newton Trust funding (2021), and EURATOM grants (2013).
Grants & Lab: Active projects include FLASH radiotherapy studies and epithelial tissue modeling. Current lab members include PhD candidates and postdocs specializing in cell biology and developmental genetics.
Future Work: Expanding studies on radiotherapy-induced tissue responses and developing early intervention strategies using 3D culture systems.
