Cynthia Eccles is a Professor and MAHSC Honorary Clinical Chair in the Division of Cancer Sciences at the University of Manchester. She holds external roles as Head of Radiotherapy Research and Development at The Christie Hospital NHS Foundation Trust and Honorary Lecturer at the University of Liverpool. Her work aligns with the UN Sustainable Development Goals, particularly in healthcare and education.
She earned a Doctor of Philosophy (2016) from Oxford University focusing on imaging hemi-thoracic radiation-induced lung toxicity in murine models, alongside dual Bachelor's degrees from Queens University at Kingston: a Bachelor of Arts in Health Studies (1996) and a Bachelor of Science in Biology (1996).
Her research interests center on MR-guided radiotherapy, adaptive radiotherapy strategies, motion management in radiotherapy, and validation of imaging biomarkers. She co-leads the Manchester CRUK RADNET AHP Doctoral Academy, supervising projects in abdominal SABR motion management and biologically adaptive RT for cervical cancers. Her team of over 10 academic and research radiographers focuses on advanced radiotherapy techniques.
Her recent publications (2024–2025) emphasize innovations in MR-guided RT workflows, dosimetric adaptation for cervical cancer, and imaging advancements like BOLD MRI and diffusion-weighted MRI on MR-Linac systems. These studies highlight her commitment to precision oncology and real-time treatment optimization.
She actively collaborates internationally, as seen in her research network and contributions to cancer radiotherapy. Her leadership in both clinical and academic settings bridges translational research and patient care.
