David Farrar

Dr. David Farrar is a Professor and Principle Investigator in the Department of Immunology at UT Southwestern Medical Center, where he has been since 2001. He earned his PhD in Immunology at UT Southwestern and completed postdoctoral training at Washington University. His lab focuses on understanding how external signals like cytokines and neurotransmitters regulate immune function, particularly in T cell development and responses to infections. Current research projects include the role of type I interferon in T cell memory, suppression of allergic T cells, adrenergic signaling in immune suppression, and circadian rhythms' impact on immunity.

Research interests span cytokine regulation of T cell fates, neural-immune interactions, and the interplay between viral infections and allergic diseases. The lab employs cutting-edge techniques like flow cytometry and animal models to study immune responses in real-time. Current projects include investigating how circadian rhythms regulate T and B cell responses to influenza infection.

Lab Team & Training: Dr. Farrar mentors graduate students and post-doctoral fellows. Recent alumni include researchers studying adrenergic regulation of IL-10 in innate cells, interferon suppression of Th2 cells in allergic patients, and cytotoxic T cell suppression by adrenergic signaling. The lab is currently recruiting postdoctoral fellows with expertise in flow cytometry and cell culture.
