David F. Wiemer is the F. Wendell Miller Professor at the Department of Chemistry, University of Iowa, within the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences. His research focuses on organophosphorus chemistry, terpenoid synthesis, and enzyme inhibition for anticancer agents.
- PhD, University of Illinois
- BS, Marquette University
His work develops carbon-phosphorus bond formation methods, employs cascade cyclizations for complex terpenoids (e.g., schweinfurthins, kampanol), and investigates isoprenoid metabolism with collaborators in Internal Medicine. Recent studies include triazole-based inhibitors and fluorescent natural product derivatives.
Scientific awards include Alfred P. Sloan and NIH postdoctoral fellowships. Grants from the Roy J. Carver Charitable Trust, NIH, Children’s Tumor Foundation, and UI Graduate College support his research. Collaborations with Raymond J. Hohl and Sarah A. Holstein target geranylgeranyl transferase II and isoprenoid enzymes.
