David Evans is a Professor of Earth & Planetary Sciences at Yale University, specializing in continental reconstructions, supercontinents, and paleomagnetism. His research explores the long-term evolution of Earth's geodynamics, tectonics, climate, and life using field and laboratory-based paleomagnetic methods. Current projects span global field locations including Angola, Australia, Brazil, Canada, and more.
- Education: B.S. Yale University (1992), M.S. and Ph.D. Caltech (1998)
- Research Focus: Proterozoic geomagnetic field characteristics, supercontinent cycles (Rodinia, Nuna), and the interplay between tectonics and climate.
- Labs: Director of the Yale Paleomagnetic Laboratory, featuring advanced facilities for directional and rock magnetic analysis.
Recent work includes studies on mid-Proterozoic geomagnetic field behavior, Neoproterozoic glacial paleolatitudes, and the assembly of Rodinia. Collaborations involve international researchers and institutions, with emphasis on paleomagnetic data integration for tectonic reconstructions.
