David Envall

David Envall is an Associate Professor in the Department of International Relations at the Australian National University (ANU), affiliated with the Coral Bell School of Asia Pacific Affairs. He holds adjunct roles at La Trobe University. His research focuses on Japanese foreign and security policy, the US-Japan alliance, and Indo-Pacific minilateralism. Envall earned a BA (Hons) from the University of Melbourne, an MA from Hitotsubashi University, and a PhD from the University of Melbourne.

Envall’s career highlights include Senior Fellow at the Higher Education Academy (2019–present) and leadership in grants like the Australia-Japan Foundation project on minilateralism (2022–2023). His work addresses regional security dynamics, strategic partnerships, and geopolitical competition, particularly between Japan, Australia, and China.
