David E. Herbert

David E. Herbert is a Professor of Chemistry at the University of Manitoba, affiliated with the Faculty of Science and the Manitoba Institute for Materials (MIM). His research focuses on synthetic chemistry at the intersection of inorganic, organometallic, organic, and materials chemistry, emphasizing ligand design to enhance sustainability in energy, synthesis, and materials.

His group develops novel molecular structures for applications in clean energy, sustainable synthesis, and display technologies. Notable achievements include the synthesis of luminescent platinum complexes, redox-active iron complexes with long-lived excited states, and innovative materials for photovoltaics and sensors.
