David Dyer, PhD, is a Professor in the Department of Microbiology and Immunology at the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center (OUHSC), within the College of Medicine. He holds a PhD from Kansas State University (1983) and has prior affiliations with the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and the State University of New York at Buffalo. His research focuses on microbial genomics, bacterial iron transport mechanisms, and regulatory networks involved in pathogenesis.
Key research areas include sequencing bacterial genomes (e.g., Neisseria gonorrhoeae, Escherichia coli, and adenoviruses), studying iron regulation in N. gonorrhoeae via Fur and sRNA networks, and investigating pathogen virulence. His work has contributed to understanding stationary-phase sRNA expression, Fur binding, and iron-responsive regulons in pathogens.
Collaborations include studies with Dr. Susana Chavez-Bueno (Children’s Mercy Hospital) on neonatal sepsis E. coli and Dr. James Chodosh (Harvard Medical School) on human adenoviruses. His lab personnel include Michael Day (Research Assistant III), Lydgia Jackson (Research Assistant Professor), and Edgar Scott (Bioinformatics Analyst). No scientific awards are explicitly listed.
