David Dranove is the Walter McNerney Distinguished Professor of Health Industry Management and Professor of Strategy at Northwestern University's Kellogg School of Management. He holds a PhD in Economics from Stanford University, an MBA from Cornell University, and a BA in Genetics from Cornell. His research focuses on industrial organization, business strategy, and healthcare economics, with emphasis on healthcare markets, antitrust cases, and policy analysis. Dranove has authored six books, including Big Med and Economics of Strategy, and has served as a key expert in high-profile cases such as FTC v. St. Luke's Healthcare System and U.S. v. Anthem and Cigna. He was honored with the Victor Fuchs Award (2022) and elected to the National Academy of Medicine (2024).
His research spans healthcare market dynamics, antitrust implications of mergers, and innovation in medical technologies. Notable recent work includes studies on hospital acquisitions, cross-market merger effects, and TAVR technology diffusion. Dranove also contributes to policy through roles on the Health Care Cost Institute Executive Committee and American Society of Health Economists.
