Professor David Deakins is an Honorary Researcher at Lancaster University Management School within the Department of Entrepreneurship and Strategy. With over 30 years of research experience in SMEs and entrepreneurship, he previously held a full-time Chair in Small Business at Massey University (New Zealand) and served as Director of the New Zealand Centre for SME Research (NZSMERC) from 2009–2014. In these roles, he led government-funded projects on SME regulation, internationalization, and innovation for entities including the OECD and APEC.
His current research focuses on:
- Entrepreneurial mentoring (with CEEDR, Middlesex University)
- Agri-business innovation (with Massey University)
- SME resilience during crises
- International business strategies
His recent publications analyze COVID-19 impacts on SMEs, particularly examining lockdown effects and policy implications. He maintains active research collaborations across academic institutions.
