David Dalton

David Dalton is a Professor of Spanish and Director of Latin American Studies at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. He holds a PhD from the University of Kansas (2015), an MA and BA from Brigham Young University (2011, 2009). His academic trajectory includes roles as Visiting Assistant Professor (2016–2017), Assistant Professor (2017–2023), and Associate Professor (2021–2025) before achieving full Professor rank in 2025.

His research focuses on Mexican and Latin American literary and cultural production, particularly intersections of science/technology with race/gender. Notable works include Robo Sacer: Necroliberalism and Cyborg Resistance in Mexican and Chicanx Dystopias (Vanderbilt UP, 2023) and Mestizo Modernity: Race, Technology, and the Body in Postrevolutionary Mexico (U of Florida P, 2018). Current projects explore digital activism in Mexico.

Dr. Dalton has published extensively on topics like lucha libre cinema, Chicana/o literature, and biopolitical analysis of Mexican social movements. Awards include the 2016 Jamie Bishop Memorial Award and a LASA Honorable Mention (2018).

He mentors students in MA and Honors theses on cultural memory, Latin American healthcare systems, and queer dystopias. His teaching spans narco culture, post-revolutionary Mexican literature, and digital media studies.

Labs/Teams: Directs the Latin American Studies program, fostering interdisciplinary collaboration on Latin American cultural and political themes.
