Dr. David Clifford is an Associate Professor at the Faculty of English, University of Cambridge, serving as Director of Studies in English (Part IA, Part II) and Tutor. His research bridges literature with anthropology and the history of science.
- Education: PhD in English (Cambridge, 2000), MA in Victorian Studies (Birkbeck, 1996), BA in English & Related Literature (York, 1994)
His work examines intersections between Victorian literature and evolutionary debates, contemporary literature and scientific ideas, and the role of dystopian narratives. He also explores how anthropology can redefine the humanities' societal function.
His publications span 2004–2017, focusing on Victorian scientific culture, evolutionary theory in literature, and interdisciplinary science-humanities frameworks. Recent projects include a 2017 analysis of the humanities' anthropological value.
