David Cielontko Ph.D. is a researcher at the Biblical Studies Department of the Institute of Philosophy, Czech Academy of Sciences, and has been affiliated with the Evangelical Theological Faculty at Charles University since 2020. He specializes in New Testament biblical studies with particular expertise in early Jewish literature, apocalyptic texts, and the historical Jesus.
Dr. Cielontko earned his Ph.D. in 2020 from the Evangelical Theological Faculty at Charles University with a dissertation titled "Vidění moudrosti proroka Henocha. O funkci Podobenství Henochových" (The Vision of the Wisdom of the Prophet Enoch. On the Function of the Parables of Enoch), supervised by Prof. Petr Pokorný and Doc. Jiří Mrázek. His Mgr. degree (2015) is also from Charles University's Evangelical Theological Faculty.
His research focuses on New Testament studies, historical Jesus research, early Jewish literature including Enochian and Maccabean texts, apocalyptic literature, and the reception of early Judaism in early Christianity. He has conducted extensive research on the Parables of Enoch and the Pseudo-Thomas Gospel of Childhood. Dr. Cielontko has presented his work at numerous international conferences across Europe including in Oxford, Tübingen, Heidelberg, Leuven, Rome, Vienna, and Regensburg.
Dr. Cielontko has participated in significant archaeological excavations at Tel Moza and Tel Azeka in Israel, and has conducted research at institutions including the University of Vienna, KU Leuven, and the Beyond Canon Center for Advanced Studies at Universität Regensburg, where he served as a Junior Research Fellow in early 2024.

As an educator, Dr. Cielontko has taught lectures and seminars in both Czech and English at the Evangelical Theological Faculty since 2021/2022 academic year, and has delivered guest lectures at institutions including Karl-Franzens-Universität Graz. His grant participation includes projects on Second Temple Judaism, transmission of ideas between Hellenism and early Christianity, and the social reality of the Parables of Enoch, for which he served as principal investigator.
Dr. Cielontko is an active member of professional organizations including the Society of Biblical Literature (2016-2024), European Association of Biblical Studies (since 2017, elected to Committee 2021-2027), and the Society for New Testament Studies (since 2024). He has engaged in public outreach through lectures at the Jewish Museum Prague and interviews on Jesus' Jewish context.
