David Chapman is a Professor of Commerce at the University of Virginia's McIntire School of Commerce, where he has been faculty since 2014. He holds a Ph.D. in Business Administration (Finance) and M.S. in Applied Economics from the University of Rochester, and a B.A. in Economics and Political Science from Swarthmore College. Prior to joining UVA, he held positions at Boston College and University of Texas at Austin, where he was tenured in Finance with a joint appointment in Economics. Before academia, he worked at the Federal Reserve Bank of New York and as an Antitrust Consultant.
Professor Chapman's research focuses on structural models of financial markets, with expertise in:
- Asset pricing theory and equilibrium models
- Household portfolio choice and dynamic preferences
- Fixed income securities and term structure of interest rates
- Investments and portfolio management strategies
His publications demonstrate consistent focus on asset pricing mechanisms, risk analysis, and market equilibrium, with recent work exploring aggregate tail risk and policy impacts on household finance. The research spans econometric methods, behavioral finance, and macroeconomic interactions with financial markets.
