David C. Wright is a Professor of English at Monmouth College, specializing in American literature, critical theory, and creative writing. He holds a B.A. from Millikin University (1988), an M.A. from Truman State University (1991), an M.F.A. in Creative Writing/Poetry from Ashland University (2011), and is A.B.D. in American Literature/Critical Theory from Loyola University Chicago. His scholarly work explores how poets engage with their communities, with publications in The Midwest Quarterly, Mennonite Quarterly Review, and Dictionary of Literary Biography. He is the author of three poetry collections: Local Talent (2019), The Small Books of Bach (2014), and A Liturgy for Stones (2003). His poetry has appeared in Image, Ecotone, and Poetry East, among others.
Teaching focuses on creative writing, American literature surveys, and scholarly editing. He emphasizes the role of writing in fostering faithful engagement with the world through language. Courses taught include ENGL 110, ENGL 210, ENGL 349, and INTG 101. His creative and scholarly work reflects a deep connection to Midwestern landscapes and communities.
