David Broussard is Associate Professor of Biology and Chair of the Department at Lycoming College, where he conducts interdisciplinary research in vertebrate paleontology and paleoecology. His work focuses on Late Devonian vertebrates and early tetrapods in the Catskill Formation of Pennsylvania.
Research Interests: His research integrates vertebrate paleontology, sedimentology, taphonomy, geochronology, and palynology to reconstruct terrestrial ecosystems during the fin-to-limb transition of vertebrates. He studies fossil assemblages in fluvial and marginal marine environments to understand the paleoenvironments of early tetrapods and associated biota.
Publications Trends: His recent publications emphasize multidisciplinary analysis of fossiliferous Upper Devonian strata, combining sedimentological context with fossil preservation and palynological data to infer paleoecological dynamics. Key themes include depositional settings, fossil taphonomy, and the geochronological framework of new tetrapod-bearing sites.
Scientific Mentoring: Dr. Broussard has mentored undergraduate researchers, several of whom have presented findings at national conferences such as the Geological Society of America and the Society of Vertebrate Paleontology.
Teaching: He teaches courses including Human Physiology, Animal Behavior, Vertebrate Biology, Introductory Biology II, and a popular non-majors course on the Natural History of Dinosaurs.
