David Boud is an Emeritus Professor at the University of Technology Sydney (UTS) and holds concurrent positions as Deakin Distinguished Professor and Co-Director of the Centre for Research on Assessment and Digital Learning at Deakin University, Melbourne, and Professor of Work and Learning at Middlesex University, London. His roles span strategic academic leadership, including his current affiliation with the Office of the Deputy Vice Chancellor Academic at Deakin and prior roles as Dean of the University Graduate School at UTS.
Professor Boud’s research focuses on assessment practices, feedback mechanisms, and student learning in higher education. He has a strong interest in fostering learning through innovative curricula (e.g., problem-based learning), digital technologies, and peer learning initiatives. His work addresses the role of reflection in learning and the design of sustainable assessment frameworks.
He has led numerous grants, including the Australian Research Council-funded projects on feedback literacy and child-witness interviewing. His research has produced over 300 publications and an h-index of 95, reflecting significant global influence in education studies.
Professor Boud is actively involved in doctoral supervision, focusing on topics such as feedback engagement, evaluative judgment, and equity in education.
