David Bird is an Assistant Professor of Music Technology and Digital Media at the University of Notre Dame. Previously, he taught at the University of Chicago, Columbia University, Hamilton College, and Stevens Institute of Technology. His research focuses on electroacoustic music, intermedia composition, and interactive media, exploring the intersection of technology and human experience. Bird is a composer, producer, and multimedia artist whose works have been performed globally at venues like Walt Disney Concert Hall and Lincoln Center, and festivals such as Gaudeamus and MATA.
Education: D.M.A., Columbia University; M.A., Columbia University; B.M., Oberlin College and Conservatory.
His compositions emphasize dramatic multimedia environments, often involving collaborations with renowned ensembles like JACK Quartet, Ensemble intercontemporain, and TAK, a chamber ensemble he co-founded. Bird’s works are released on labels like Oxtail Recordings and have received critical acclaim from The New York Times and Bandcamp. He actively curates experimental music through Qubit New Music and holds residencies including the Schloss Wiepersdorf Fellowship.
