Dr. David Beran serves as an Adjunct Professor at the Department of Clinical Research, University of Southern Denmark (SDU), and as an Associate Professor at the Division of Tropical and Humanitarian Medicine, University of Geneva. He plays a central role in the global DIAMOND-2 project focused on improving data on the incidence and prevalence of type 1 diabetes worldwide and building capacity in low- and middle-income countries.
Dr. Beran has extensive experience in global health with particular expertise in improving health systems and access to diabetes care and essential medicines such as insulin. His field work spans multiple countries including Kyrgyzstan, Mali, Mozambique, Nicaragua, Vietnam and Zambia. Previously affiliated with University College London, he has conducted numerous projects on type 1 diabetes in resource-limited settings.
Since 2021, he has maintained a visiting professorship at Steno Diabetes Center Odense (SDCO) through the Danish Diabetes Academy, which resulted in a white paper on type 1 diabetes in Denmark. At SDU, he strengthens international research networks between the University of Geneva and SDCO, contributes to joint PhD and postdoctoral programs, and shares his knowledge through lectures and seminars.
