David Bennett

Dr. David Bennett is a Postdoctoral Research Fellow and Tutor at Wycliffe Hall, University of Oxford. He holds dual affiliations with the Faculty of Theology and Religion and serves as co-founder of the Augustinian Resemblances Project. His work bridges patristics, systematic theology, and ethics, focusing on desire, theological anthropology, and queer theory. Bennett earned a Certificate in Pastoral and Theological Studies from Oxford and an MLitt in Divinity (Dean’s Award for Academic Excellence, 2018) from the University of St Andrews.

His research explores Augustinian ethics, LGBTQI+ theology, and the intersection of queer theory with Anglican moral frameworks. Bennett’s forthcoming book, An Augustinian Ethics of Same-Sex Desire and Gay Celibacy, critically engages contemporary queer theology.

Beyond academia, Bennett advises the Church of England’s pastoral guidance groups, contributes to public theology through media (e.g., BBC, podcasts), and serves as a member of the Archbishop of Canterbury’s College of Evangelists. His work emphasizes bridging theological scholarship with pastoral practice and cultural engagement.
