David Becher is a Professor of Finance and Dean’s Industry Fellow at Drexel University’s LeBow College of Business, where he is also affiliated with the Raj & Kamla Gupta Governance Institute and Corporate and Executive Education programs. His research focuses on corporate governance, mergers and acquisitions, banking regulation, and executive compensation.
Dr. Becher earned a B.A. in Economics and International Relations from the College of William and Mary, specialized in International Economics at the University de Montpellier, France, and completed his Ph.D. in Finance at Pennsylvania State University.
His research explores how corporate boards and executives make decisions, the impact of regulatory changes on financial institutions, and the dynamics of corporate control. Key themes include the interplay between governance and regulation, the role of analysts in mergers, and the strategic behavior of boards during takeover attempts. His work is grounded in empirical finance and has significant implications for policy and corporate practice.
The 15 most recent publications reflect a sustained focus on governance, M&A, and banking, with recent work examining creditor influence in acquisitions, funding conditions, and performance-based board turnover. The research spans disciplines including finance, economics, law, and organizational behavior.
