David Baxter is a Senior Lecturer at the University of South Wales, based in the Faculty of Computing, Engineering and Science. With over 20 years of lecturing experience in Applied Mathematics and related fields, he has been affiliated with the university since 2002. His expertise includes mathematical modelling, fluid dynamics, and environmental engineering applications. David holds a BSc (Hons) and MSc from Cardiff University, followed by an MRes and a Post Graduate Certificate in Higher Education.
Research Interests: David’s work focuses on mathematical modelling of low-energy dynamic compaction, groundwater changes (e.g., the Cardiff Bay Barrage project), and civil engineering projects like the redesign of Baltimore Harbour (collaborating with Princeton University). He has also engaged in industry consulting for multinational firms in contracting and consultancy sectors.
Professional Roles and Responsibilities: Currently the Programme Leader for Bachelors and Masters programmes, he previously led international academic partnerships in the Middle East. He serves as an External Examiner at Liverpool University, Exeter University, and Plymouth University. Internationally, he advises on programme validation in Malaysia and Sri Lanka and facilitates USW’s educational partnerships in the Asia-Pacific region, including collaborations with Suzhou University of Science and Technology.
