Dr. David Barrera is an Associate Professor at Carleton University's School of Computer Science and co-director of the Carleton Internet Security Lab (CISL). Previously at Polytechnique Montréal and ETH Zurich, his research analyzes security in IoT, Android systems, and future internet architectures.
Research focuses on IoT security, network policy enforcement, and applied cryptography. Recent work critically examines security best practices and develops frameworks for smart home security management.
He teaches courses in network security and supervises graduate students working on IoT security, software update practices, and container security. Research contributions include the HORNET high-speed onion routing system and studies of Bitcoin key management usability.
