David Baker

David Baker is an Associate Professor in the Department of Philosophy at the University of Michigan. His research centers on the philosophy of physics, particularly quantum field theory, quantum mechanics, and general relativity, alongside broader metaphysical and philosophical inquiries into symmetry principles, laws of nature, and the metaphysics of fundamental quantities. He also engages with moral philosophy.

Professor Baker’s recent publications explore symmetries, supersymmetry, spacetime functionalism, and foundational issues in quantum mechanics and field theory. His work has appeared in leading journals such as Nous, Philosophy of Science, and The British Journal for the Philosophy of Science. Key themes include the ontological implications of symmetry breaking, the interpretation of gauge theories, and the structure of spacetime.
