David Antoine is a Professor in the Remote Sensing and Satellite Research Group at Curtin University's School of Earth and Planetary Sciences. He leads the Remote Sensing and Satellite Research Group (RSSRG) and has held academic and research roles since 1995. He earned a doctorate in oceanography from Université Pierre and Marie Curie (Paris) in 1995.
His research focuses on marine optics, bio-optics, satellite ocean colour remote sensing, and primary production modeling. Key projects include the BOUSSOLE long-term Mediterranean time series, Southern Ocean studies (e.g., SOLACE 2021 voyage), and collaborations with the Australian Centre for Excellence in Antarctic Science (ACEAS). He has contributed to global initiatives like the International Ocean-Colour Coordinating Group (IOCCG) and serves as an Associate Editor for Limnology & Oceanography.
Recent articles emphasize satellite calibration, phytoplankton dynamics, and Southern Ocean biogeochemistry. His work integrates remote sensing with field data to address climate and oceanographic challenges. He has secured grants totaling over $7M, including ARC Discovery and SmartSAT CRC projects.
Dr. Antoine's service extends to roles in the Australian satellite community (e.g., AusCalVal Technical Advisory Committee) and international advisory boards (ESA, NASA). He maintains a dual affiliation with CNRS (France) and collaborates globally on ocean observation systems.
