Dr. David Ansell serves as an Assistant Professor in the School of Chemistry & Biosciences within the Faculty of Life Sciences at the University of Bradford, where he leads research in skin science and teaches multiple undergraduate and postgraduate courses.
After completing his PhD in 2012 at the University of Manchester researching hair follicles in wound repair under Prof Mat Hardman, he spent eight years as a postdoctoral researcher working across labs led by Profs Hardman, Ralf Paus, and Enrique Amaya before establishing his independent research group at Bradford in 2020.
His research program investigates impaired wound healing mechanisms that lead to chronic wounds, with specific projects examining skin ageing effects on vasculature and tissue viability, biofilm and infection impacts on skin integrity, and fundamental hair follicle biology. His work bridges basic science with clinical applications in dermatology and regenerative medicine.
With 20 published journal articles accumulating 491 citations and an h-index of 11, Dr. Ansell has established himself as a productive researcher in skin science despite his relatively recent transition to an independent position.
He actively mentors PhD students and supervises multiple research projects while teaching core modules including Skin Biology, Stem Cells and Regenerative Medicine (BIS7013-B), Human Physiology, Biochemistry & Microbiology (PHA4014-D), Cosmetic Science (both distance learning CFS5027-B and campus-based CFS5026-B), and foundational Cell Biology courses (BIS4016-B and BIS4008-B).
