Dave Groobert is a Senior Lecturer in Public Relations at The Media School, Indiana University, where he joined the full-time faculty in 2017 after over 30 years as a public relations practitioner in Washington, D.C. He teaches multiple courses in the public relations concentration and brings extensive industry experience to his academic role.
Education:
- Bachelor of Science in Advertising (cum laude, 1986) from Syracuse University's S.I. Newhouse School of Communications, with a minor in English
- Master's degree in Management and Leadership from Western Governors University
His research focuses on communications strategy, message development, corporate communications, communications ethics, and crisis communications. With deep industry experience across healthcare, technology, financial services, and sustainability sectors, his campaigns have been featured in Advertising Age, Health Care Marketing, and The Wall Street Journal. His work emphasizes ethical frameworks and integrated communications approaches for diverse organizational contexts.
Professional recognition includes:
- Two Public Relations Society of America Silver Anvil awards for leadership of Environics Communications' Washington office
Groobert serves as faculty advisor to Indiana University's Public Relations Student Society of America chapter (fifth largest nationally) and is affiliated with the Arnolt Center for Investigative Journalism. His industry background includes founding Environics' U.S. operations, senior roles at Hill & Knowlton, and corporate communications leadership at COMSAT Corporation.
