Dave Bright serves as the Associate Director of the Larned A. Waterman Iowa Nonprofit Resource Center and an Adjunct Professor at the University of Iowa College of Law. He earned his BS (1992) and JD (2001) from the University of Iowa. His expertise spans nonprofit governance, franchise law, art law, and estate planning.

Research interests include nonprofit legal frameworks, cultural heritage protection, and business law. He authored the Iowa section of the American Bar Association’s Franchise Desk Book and frequently lectures on topics like art law and estate planning. Awards include Martindale-Hubbell’s top “AV” rating and recognition in Best Lawyers in America for Franchise Law (2022–2023).
Teaches courses such as Art, Law, and Ethics, Cultural Property/Heritage, and Art & Entertainment Law. Previously practiced law for over 20 years, focusing on real estate, franchising, and museum law. Active in community boards, including the Cedar Rapids Museum of Art (Treasurer), Iowa Volunteer Lawyers for the Arts (President), and YMCA Camp Wapsie (Chair).
