Dav Smith is a Lecturer in Buildings Archaeology at the University of York's Department of Archaeology. Smith holds a BA in Medieval History from the University of Melbourne (2000) and completed an MA in Archaeology of Buildings (2009) and a PhD (2014) at the University of York, where his doctoral work examined Victorian rebuilding practices in North Yorkshire churches.
His research interests include church archaeology, conservation philosophy, and heritage legislation. He has professional experience with Historic England and Maybank Buildings Conservation, contributing to commercial buildings archaeology projects.
Smith's publications span supramolecular gels, drug delivery systems, and materials science, reflecting interdisciplinary engagement. He advocates for equality, diversity, and inclusion in chemistry education and has written on STEM fatherhood and curriculum reform.
