Daun Kwag

Daun Kwag is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Clinical Mental Health Counseling at Agnes Scott College, where she contributes to training future counselors with a focus on equity and cultural responsiveness. She holds a PhD from Georgia State University, an MA in Mental Health Counseling and Behavioral Medicine from Boston University, and a BA in Music (Violin Performance) and English (British Literature) from Emory University.

Her teaching and scholarly work centers on AANHPI wellness, migrant experiences, trauma, and meaning-making, with a strong commitment to anti-oppressive and decolonizing practices in counselor education. She emphasizes culturally responsive research methodologies and advocates for structural change in mental health access.

Dr. Kwag’s professional activities include serving as Chair of the Writer’s Consortium for the Association for Multicultural Counseling & Development. She is also a practicing counselor at the Research Institute for Counseling & Education (RICE), a Korean-owned private practice serving Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander (AANHPI) communities. Additionally, she serves on the board of People’s Empowerment through Advocacy, Counseling, and Education (PEACE), a nonprofit dedicated to reducing barriers to mental health care for AANHPI populations.

Her accolades include being a 2023–2024 Doctoral Fellow with the National Board for Certified Counselors and a 2022–2023 Intern with Chi Sigma Iota International. These honors reflect her leadership and excellence in counseling scholarship and practice.

Dr. Kwag is a licensed National Certified Counselor (NCC) and integrates her clinical expertise with academic mentorship and community advocacy. She also performs violin at weddings and events with her string quartet, reflecting her deep connection between music and emotional well-being.
