Fabrice Dassenoy is a Professor of Materials Science at École Centrale de Lyon, where he has worked since 2002. He earned his doctorate in materials science from the University of Toulouse (France) in 1999 and conducted postdoctoral research at the Max-Planck Institute for Surface Physics in Berlin (2000-2002). As Director of the 'Science and Technology of Materials and Surfaces' (STMS) department since 2018, he leads tribology research focusing on nanomaterials as lubricant additives.
- PhD in Materials Science, University of Toulouse (1999)
- Postdoctoral Fellow, Max-Planck Institute (2000-2002)
- Lecturer (2002-2011), then Professor (since 2012) at École Centrale de Lyon
- Director of STMS Department (since 2018)
His research at LTDS laboratory explores tribological properties of nanomaterials, particularly molybdenum disulfide (MoS2) nanoparticles, with applications in automotive engineering. Current projects include AddNano (EU FP7-funded) and BeFriend (ANR-funded), focusing on scalable nanotechnology processes and sustainable nanolubricants.
Recent publications demonstrate expertise in nanocharacterization techniques (TEM, SEM, XRD) and lubrication mechanism analysis. He has authored over 60 articles and 7 patents in nanolubricant technology.
- Taiho Encouraging Award for Young Tribologists (2009)
As a teacher-researcher, Dassenoy instructs courses on materials characterization and leads interdisciplinary training modules. He is a key figure in advancing nanotechnology applications for mechanical systems optimization.
