Darren Staloff is a Professor of Humanities at the Hamilton School, University of Florida. Previously, he held positions at City University of New York as Professor of American History and Director of the Hertog Scholars Program. He is affiliated with Princeton University’s James Madison Program as a Fellow. His research focuses on colonial and revolutionary America, with a current book project exploring the Enlightenment's impact on American religion and politics.
- Education: Ph.D. (1991), M.Phil. (1986), M.A. (1985), and B.A. (1983) in History from Columbia University.
Research interests include the intellectual foundations of the American Enlightenment, colonial social theory, and the intersection of religion and politics in early America. His published works analyze the intellectual evolution of key figures like Hamilton, Adams, and Jefferson, as well as the emergence of an American intelligentsia in Puritan Massachusetts.
His current project examines the transformation of religious thought from physico-theology to Christian humanism during the Federalist Era. Awards include his fellowship at Princeton’s Madison Program.
Teaching focuses on civil discourse and the American political order, with courses consistently titled Civil Discourse and the American Political Order.
