Darren Scorza is a music educator and performer affiliated with VanderCook College of Music, Harper College, and North Park University. He holds a Bachelor of Music in Performance from Eastern Illinois University. As an MECA Lecturer at VanderCook, he authors online drumset courses and teaches percussion methods. At Harper College, he instructs Jazz Percussion and directs the Jazz Lab Band, while at North Park University, he leads drumset courses and percussion methods. Scorza’s career spans performance, production, and education, blending academic rigor with practical experience tailored to students' strengths.
His performance background includes collaborations with jazz legends like Bobby Enriquez and Eddie Harris, participation in Chicago’s jazz scene at venues such as the Jazz Showcase, and work with artists like Michele Thomas (his wife and jazz vocalist). He has contributed as a drummer and engineer on recordings for groups like Swing Forward and the Metropolitan Jazz Octet. Additionally, he served as Jazz Band Director at Notre Dame College Prep for a decade.
