Darren Hudson is an Associate Professor at CREOL, The College of Optics and Photonics, University of Central Florida since April 2023. His research focuses on nonlinear dynamics in optical fibers with applications in LiDAR, remote sensing, and directed energy. He holds a Ph.D. in Physics from the University of Colorado Boulder (2009), specializing in ultrafast optics and nonlinear fiber dynamics.
- Award: Discovery Early Career Research Award (DECRA)
- Key Projects: Mid-IR fiber lasers, on-chip supercontinuum in silicon waveguides, and multi-spectral laser systems for defense/aerospace
- Industry Collaboration: Co-founder of Miriad Technologies (mid-IR spectrometers)
Research Group: Studies light-matter interactions in optical fibers to develop next-generation laser sources for LiDAR, free-space communications, and quantum technologies. Current graduate advisees include James Drake, Ryan Hechmer, Joshua Palacios, and Gabriel Skowronek.
