Darragh Gannon is an Assistant Teaching Professor of Irish History and Associate Director of Global Irish Studies at Georgetown University's Department of History (College). He holds the Ireland Funds Monaco Princess Grace Fellowship at the Princess Grace Library. Previously, he served as Head of Irish Studies at University College Dublin and AHRC Research Fellow at Queen's University Belfast.
His expertise spans modern Irish, British, and global history with a focus on nationalism, diaspora, and empire. Notable works include Conflict, Diaspora, and Empire (Cambridge, 2023) which received the 2024 ACIS Donald Murphy Prize, and Proclaiming a Republic (2016), launched by Ireland's Minister for Arts. His upcoming work Worlds of Revolution explores Ireland's global connections (1919-1923).
Prof. Gannon has held major fellowships at University of Melbourne, University of Toronto, and NYU. Beyond academia, he curates historical exhibits, advises museums, and appears frequently in international media including TIME, BBC, and RTÉ. His public engagement includes roles as Smithsonian Journeys expert and former National Museum of Ireland curator.
Key honors include the Fulbright Scholarship and multiple research fellowships. His editorial work includes co-editing Globalizing Irish America (2024) and Ireland 1922 (2021).
