Daron Acemoğlu

Daron Acemoğlu is the Elizabeth and James Killian Professor of Economics at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), where he has been affiliated since 1993. He is also associated with the Canadian Institute for Advanced Research (CIFAR) through its Institutions, Organizations, and Growth program, and with the National Bureau of Economic Research (NBER) and the Centre for Economic Policy Research (CEPR).

W. Shultz Prize (2004), Sherwin Rosen Award (2004), and the Erwin Plein Nemmers Prize for work of lasting significance in economics.

Books such as Why Nations Fail (a New York Times bestseller) and Economic Origins of Dictatorship and Democracy have received accolades like the Association of American Publishers Award, William Riker Prize, and Woodrow Wilson Foundation Award. He has also authored Introduction to Modern Economic Growth and Principles of Economics (with David Laibson and John List).

Honorary Doctorates from the University of Utrecht, Boğaziçi University, University of Athens, and others underscore his global academic influence. He has delivered keynote lectures worldwide, including the Alfred Marshall Lecture (2003) and Nemmers Prize Lectures.
