Dr. Darlaine Jantzen is an Associate Professor in the Department of Nursing at Trinity Western University (TWU), specializing in nursing education and adult learning theory. She joined TWU in 2019 and has been teaching in the Master of Nursing program since 2014. Her academic leadership roles include service on the Nurse Educators of British Columbia executive (2016–2019) and the BCCNP Education Program Review Committee (2019–2022). She is also a member of the International Learning Collaborative (ILC), focusing on nursing education and care fundamentals.
Dr. Jantzen holds a PhD in Nursing from the University of Alberta (2012) and an MA in Leadership and Training from Royal Roads University (2004). Her research emphasizes qualitative methodologies, including grounded theory and narrative inquiry, to explore nursing education, workplace learning, and virtue ethics. Key projects include studies on nurses’ professional development, the impact of collaborative learning units, and organizational culture in healthcare settings.
Her research interests span philosophy of nursing education, experiential learning, and healthcare ethics. Recent work includes investigating moral imagination in nursing education and reframing covenant ethics in nursing practice. She has secured grants such as the TWU Internal Grant (2020–2022) for research on ‘Educating for Human Flourishing in Nursing’ and collaborated on the BC Nursing Research Initiative’s study on evidence-based practice implementation.
Awarded the NNPBC Excellence in Nursing Education (2017), Dr. Jantzen teaches courses like NURS 124 (Communication and Covenantal Caring) and NURS 510 (Foundations of Nursing Knowledge). She actively contributes to nursing education through textbook chapters on clinical nursing skills and fluid electrolyte balances. Her affiliations include the International Philosophy of Nursing Society (IPONS) and the Clinical Nurse Specialists Association of British Columbia.
