Dario Spini is a Professor at the University of Lausanne's School of Social and Political Sciences, Institute of Social Sciences. He serves as Group leader of IP2 and Member of IP1 within the LIVES framework, having previously co-directed the NCCR LIVES (National Center of Competence in Research). His office is located in the Geopolis Building (Room 5159) in Lausanne, with contact number 021 691 38 44.
His research focuses on Life Course Research, Social Vulnerability, and Health Disparities, examining how socioeconomic conditions, social networks, and urban contexts shape health trajectories across the lifespan. Key methodologies include longitudinal analysis, intersectional frameworks, and geosocial mapping. His work spans European and Chinese contexts, with particular emphasis on material deprivation, intergenerational effects of historical events, and urban health dynamics.
Analysis of his recent publications reveals strong trends in geospatial health analysis (using tools like Urbasan for urban sleep patterns), intersectional inequality measurement (particularly material deprivation in Switzerland), and networked life course perspectives. His work bridges sociology, public health, and gerontology with a distinctive focus on contextual vulnerability.
As former Co-director of NCCR LIVES, he led Switzerland's major life course research initiative. Current leadership roles include Project leader of Core and Group leader of IP2, directing research on vulnerability and resilience across the lifespan. His work demonstrates consistent funding through large-scale collaborative programs like LIVES and Cause Commune.
Professor Spini actively applies research through community interventions like the 'Neighborhood in Solidarity' methodology and geosocial tools for health promotion. His team maintains strong international collaborations, particularly with Chinese researchers on famine exposure studies and European networks on aging populations.
