Dr Dario Lolli is an Assistant Professor in the School of Modern Languages and Cultures at Durham University. His research focuses on Japanese media culture, particularly anime and game media, examining their global circulation, materiality, and socio-political implications. He holds affiliations with the Oriental Museum through collaborative projects on anime archives.
Previously, he served as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at Keio University, and taught at Loughborough University and Birkbeck, University of London. His current monograph project explores anime franchises' transmedia ecologies and their socio-cultural impacts. He is a permanent member of the Archive Centre for Anime Studies in Niigata (ACASiN) and organized the 2023 symposium 'Doing things with anime materials' funded by the Daiwa Anglo-Japanese Foundation and BAFTSS.
Research interests include media franchising, digital labour, licensing economies, and the materiality of anime production artifacts. He welcomes PhD inquiries on Japanese media, visual cultures, or transmedia studies.
