Dario Calomino is an Associate Professor at the Department of Cultures and Civilizations, University of Verona. His academic journey includes a BA/MA in Classical Archaeology from Padua University and a PhD in Ancient History from Verona University. He has held roles at the British Museum (British Academy Newton Research Fellow, 2012–2013; Project Curator, 2014–2017) and Warwick University (2017–2020). He currently collaborates with King's College London and the Manufacturing Centre at Warwick University on interdisciplinary projects.
His research focuses on Roman coinage, imperial imagery, and ancient visual culture. Notable grants include an ERC Consolidator Grant (2020) for the "The Roman Emperor Seen from the Provinces" (RESP) project and a MUR FARE grant (2021) for the "Roman Imperial Image between Coinage and Sculpture" (IRIMeS) project. He is a member of the Royal Numismatic Society and the Roman Society, and holds positions in academic institutions like the Accademia di Scienze e Lettere di Verona and Accademia degli Agiati di Rovereto.
Teaching responsibilities include modules on Numismatics, Ancient Greek and Roman Art, and Egyptian Archaeology. He leads research initiatives on Roman provincial coins and archaeological heritage management, with affiliations to labs like ArcheoLab and the Museo Nazionale Romano's Medagliere.
