Darin Kamstra is a Professor of Music, Department Head, Director of Jazz Studies, and Percussion Director at Colorado Mesa University. He holds a DMA from the University of Illinois, an MM from University of Northern Colorado, and a BM from Eastern Washington University.
His research focuses on percussion performance, jazz pedagogy, and music technology. Kamstra actively composes and arranges music for percussion ensembles and big bands, with works published by Tapspace, ejazzlines, and Grand Mesa Music Publishers. He also contributes to the Percussive Arts Society Online Research Journal.
As an performer, he serves as principal timpanist/percussionist for the Grand Junction Symphony Orchestra and performs with the Grand Junction Rockestra and CMU Faculty Jazz Quintet. He directed the CMU Percussion Ensemble at the 2024 Edeta Arts Percussion Festival in Spain.
